HATTA VILLAGE
The Hatta area is the focal point for local wadi bashers (4-wheel drive enthusiasts), but equally fascinating is the drive from Dubai which features a variety of landscapes, from burnished sand dunes to the rugged Hajjar mountains- the cool mountain air offers the visitor a reprieve from city life.

Hatta village is over 200 years old, and is dotted with houses of stone and mud centred around the fort, a stronghold of the past.

The fort itself is an attraction for visitors, and although it has been empty for over 50 years, renovations are underway to restore the building using the original local materials of volcanic origin bound together with "sarouj" mortar.

The building consists of a courtyard and rooms on the sides with several towers originally used as watch towers guarding against unwelcome visitors. The 25 by 40 metre central courtyard of the fort is enclosed by a solid wall ranging in height from 3 to 5 metres. The impressive gateway on the south side features a large ornamental wooden door. The eastern wall of the fort was built with an 8 metre high observation tower.

The ruins of the village, which are also undergoing a restoration programme, lie to the south of the fort and to the north, among the luxurious coolness of the date palms, stands the Juma Mosque which is the oldest building in Hatta, dating back to 1780.

A trip through the village via its walkways is an enjoyable experience and is educational for young and old alike.

Jeema restaurant -fine dining restaurant with a la carte menu. Open daily from 7:00 pm. until 11:00 pm. Open on friday for lunch 12:00 pm. until 3:00 pm.

Roumoul Cocktail Bar - open daily from 11:00 am until 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm until midnight.
