5 / 5 Excellent "Adventure, Adventure"
Value for Money5

Great hotel overall but it is still only partially completed. Great customer service. The front of the hotel still looks like a bombing aftermath but not so much a problem if you're not going to step out that way and by taking the beach exit instead. There is a deep underground tunnel from the front gate to the reception which was pretty cool so you would bypass the hideous entrance view. There were 2 pool areas, one was the main pool where children and families go, the other is an infinity pool at a higher level overlooking the horizon which is their main selling point. The beach front is smaller than other resorts but workable provided that you get there early enough to secure a spot. Breakfast was so-so but plenty of variety though but this depends on individual taste so don't take anyone's opinion as gospel. Restaurant food at dinner was good, very few Filipino food was offered to accommodate tourists which I found a little disappointing. Our room was good, plenty of space. Came with welcome pastries and lemonade which made a nice touch. Flip-flops/tongs/slippers and pool/beach bag provided in the room. Nightly turndown service also offered. Gym was OK in size, bigger than most hotel gyms but no change rooms. Spa was extremely expensive so don't bother unless you feel like throwing money away, go out on the beach instead where plenty of masseurs are on offer. Land and water transfers to and from the airport were provided by the hotel which was fantastic but please double check when booking just in case not included in yours. There is a lingering raw sewerage smell in some spots of the hotel which is typical of a lot of island resorts around the world but still it is unpleasant so try to reconcile this fact of life sooner rather than later. We travelled in March which unfortunately is algae season hence a fairly thick layer of green algae is on the beach shore in front of the hotel. Apparently it is because algae forms from bacteria in the water which is nutrient rich coming from human wastes. Again, this is a universal island resort issue but doesn't make it right. The hotel initially gave us the wrong room which was granted an upgrade to a Seaview room but did not fit our purpose as there were 3 of us sharing and no place for a third rollaway bed due to the room's configuration. Someone should have read the booking a bit closer to realise the issue this presented. This Seaview room also had a door lock problem where the automatic locking system did not work which we only discovered as we were on our way to dinner. Engineering worked on replacing the lock for about an hour and a half which unfortunately finished at 9pm so we missed our dinner reservation as we were not going to leave our belongings in an unlocked room, you can't be too careful. When those 2 issues were resolved, the rest of the stay was fairly good. Location is great at Station 1 which is the quieter end. It is only a 15 min walk on the beach from Station 2 if you're after a bit of the tourist noise without having to sleep through that. The tide goes very low at night as the beach water is very shallow for the first 30 odd meters. We even saw a couple having intercourse on the beach under the moonlight which provided some live entertainment! An old lady was sitting on the beach watching them and eating chips!

4 / 5 Good "Adventure, Adventure"

The hotel is very nice. Ameneties and rooms are new and kept clean. Water and land transfer is very convenient and on time. Check-in is fairly quick and very convenient. Service is very good. Crew is very courteous and attentive. Breakfast is also good, has a variety of cuisine available. Only improvement I can suggest is on the shuttle service. The hotel should put a queueing mechanism to organize pick ups in D'mall. Also, increase the number of vans to pick up guest in D'mall during peak hours.
